Hodgkin's Disease - Symptoms and Treatment
Hodgkin's Disease is a malignant (cancerous) growth of cells in the lymph system better known as lymphoma.It is a cancer that starts in lymphatic tissue. Lymphatic tissue includes the lymph nodes and related organs that are part of the body's immune and blood-forming systems. Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphomas are two main types of lymphoma cancer. The cancer cells in Hodgkin's disease are called Reed-Sternberg cells.
Causes of Hodgkin's Disease
Following are the cause of Hodgkin's Disease:
- poor immunity: like the people who are taking medicines after an organ transplant; or in people who have HIV or AIDS and some rare medical conditions that reduce immunity
- age: Hodgkin lymphoma is most common in younger people in their 20s although it can occur at any age
- infection with the Epstein Barr virus (which causes glandular fever) may slightly increase the risk of developing Hodgkin lymphoma later in life.
Symptoms of Hodgkin's Disease
Hodgkin's Disease is not infectious like other cancers and nor it passes from one person to other through inheritance. Symptoms of Hodgkin's Disease include:
- heavy and/or frequent sweats - especially at night
- unexplained high temperatures
- weight loss and tiredness
- a cough or breathlessness
- a persistent itch all over the body.
- painless swellings except some exceptions
Treatment of Hodgkin's Disease
Some treatment methods are as follows:
1) Surgery : only when surgery is necessary
2) Radiation Therapy: The primary treatment for early Hodgkin's disease (HD)
3) Chemotherapy : cancer-killing drugs. Such drugs can be given: intravenously, through a vein; orally, by mouth; subcutaneously, injected under the skin; intramuscularly, injected into a muscle; or intrathecally, injected into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
4) Immunotherapy to develop immune system of patient to fight against disease
5) Using fructose and Vinegar
6) Special diet will be created for any cancer patient including nutritional supplements
