Arthritis - Symptoms and Treatment


Arthritis is a common disease nowadays. Arthritis named disease relates to the disease of the joints it includes all type of joint disorders. The breakdown of the cartilage lining the bones in joints, usually weight-bearing joints causes stiffness and pain. A joint is an area of the body where two different bones meet. A joint functions to move the body parts connected by its bones. It causes pain in joints which results in painful swelling of joints

Arthritis is not just a alone disease in itself but it consists around 100 different diseases relating to joints and bones or in other words includes various type of joint disease.Arthritis is a disease which is effecting about 2 out of every 15 peoples of all ages in america. People with arthritis experience pain and loss of movement and function

Causes of Arthritis

There are various causes for Arthritis but the most important are as follows:

  • Breakdown of cartilage or general wear and tear on joints
  • Broken bone
  • Age factor
  • Overweight
  • Infection (usually caused by bacteria or viruses)
  • An autoimmune disease (the body attacks itself because the immune system believes a body part is foreign)
  • Repetitive action that puts stress on the joint

Symptoms of Arthritis

  • Joint pain and stiffness in joints.
  • Joint swelling
  • Warmth around a joint
  • Bumps(nodules)
  • Redness of the skin around a joint
  • Reduced ability to move the joint
  • Tenderness
  • Numbness and tingling in the hands.

Treatment of Arthritis

For most of the arthritis diseases there is no specific cure yet there are various therapies which can help patients to overcome from arthritis these treatments are as follows:

  • Nutrition supplements such as vitamins and minerals, especially antioxidants like vitamin E
  • Strength training for muscle tone
  • Heat and cold treatments
  • Water therapy, ice massage, or transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS)
  • Glucosamine and chondroitin
  • Low-impact aerobic activity
  • Applying Capsaicin cream
  • Surgery and other approaches
  • Range of motion exercises for flexibility
