Genital Itching Home Remedies - How to Get Rid of Genital Itching


Genital Itching is spread only woman. Itching can come from something as simple as trapping bacteria for too long under too many layers of too-tight clothes. Most women assume that all genital itching is due to yeast/thrush (Candida) infection. Although itching is a frequent symptom in infections such as yeast/thrush, The itching may cause a desire to scratch the affected area. Genital itching may be caused by skin irritation, transmitted diseases and allergies. Most women have a slight discharge on and off for most of their adult lives. But a heavy discharge or one that looks or smells different than usual, may mean infection. The itching can also signal an allergy to a chemical in soap, deodorant or dye, or may simply be a sign of thinning tissues in women approaching menopause. There are several other causes for genital itching in women First is Skin disease e.g. eczema/dermatitis, psoriasis, and other less common skin disorders such as lichen sclerosus. Second is irritation from sweat, tight clothing or personal hygiene products (soaps, detergents, spermicides) and fungal infections.

Females should take some steps to help avoid genital itching. Avoid chemical products such as douches or feminine hygiene sprays, which can upset the acidic balance. There are some general measures can be helpful cause of the itching. Avoid tight clothing. Lycra in clothing makes it cling and increases heat and sweating. Cotton underwear is best. Avoid excessive washing, as this will remove the protective natural oils on the vulvar skin and will dry and irritate the skin. Itching is not due to lack of hygiene. Use simple moisturising cream cleansers for washing instead of soap. Do not use feminine hygiene sprays or other perfumed products. Try taking a simple anti-histamine before bed if nighttime itching is a problem e.g. chlorpheniramine or diphenhydramine. This will reduce the itching but may make you a little drowsy. In hot weather, a simple barrier cream (e.g. nappy or diaper cream) applied during the day time may help.

Home Remedies for Genital Itching

  • Dip a tampon in plain yogurt (curd, yoghurt) containing Lactobacillus acidophilus. Repeat this until one day after the symptoms disappear.
  • Peel a fresh clove of garlic and make a little tampon by wrapping it in cheesecloth and tying with unwaxed dental floss. You may leave a bit of floss to pull it out afterward. For severe infection, try this in the morning and during night both. Repeat this until one day after the symptoms disappear.
    Pour a few drops of Teatree oil (available from natural health stores) on a lubricated tampon.
  • Add 1 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in 2 cups of water and put 1 garlic clove in it. Let it stand for some time and use this for douching.
  • For other parts of the Body: Apply fresh garlic paste directly on the affected part of the body.
