Hydronephrosis - Symptoms and Treatment
Hydronephrosis is distention and dilation of the renal pelvis , usually caused by obstruction of the free flow of urine from the kidney. Normally, urine flows from the kidneys down through the ureters and into the bladder. If the flow of urine is obstructed, urine backs up in the small tubes of the kidney and its collecting area (renal pelvis), distending the kidney and increasing the pressure on its internal structures. The elevated pressure from obstruction may ultimately damage the kidney and can result in loss of kidney function.
